Rotorworks was out doing some training for operational customers and we were doing some hover exits from a Bell 206 Helicopter. There is an annual training requirement when the hover exit is used to disembark customers when the helicopter can’t land. The pilots and the customers need training before conducting these exercises.

The helicopter is brought to a low hover and the person lowers equipment to the ground and then climbs out of the helicopter onto the skids, and then steps off onto the ground. The hover height will vary depending on the terrain that they are working in. There is a Centre of Gravity change as the person moves in the helicopter and onto the ground.

The helicopter is brought to a hover and the back door is opened.  The equipment is lowered to the ground

The person steps out on the skid  The helicopter door is closed

The person steps onto the ground.  The person waits while the helicopter departs.
